Transform Communities with Effective Communication

Our Mission

Transform communities with effective communication to…

  • reduce staff turnover impact

  • increase stakeholder engagement

  • create professional advancement pathways

The BFA Institute transforms communities through effective communication strategies that address organizational challenges at their root. We reduce staff turnover impact by identifying and eliminating barriers created by white supremacy culture in professional environments. We increase stakeholder engagement through comprehensive service offerings in executive/professional coaching, leadership cultivation, nonprofit consultancy, and targeted workshops. We create professional advancement pathways by providing professional and leadership cultivation coaching specifically designed for Black women and femmes.

The Problems We Address

High Staff Turnover & Toxic Corporate Culture

According to McKinsey & Company's "Women in the Workplace" study (2023), toxic work environments that marginalize Black women result in turnover rates 2.3 times higher than their white counterparts, costing US companies an estimated $172 billion annually in replacement and retraining expenses.

Organizations with low inclusion scores experience 50% higher employee turnover rates and 56% lower team collaboration effectiveness.

Advancement Barriers for Black Women

The National Women's Law Center (2023) reports Black women working full-time typically earn only 67 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men—a gap that persists across all education levels. McKinsey's research reveals that Black women face promotion rates 30% lower than white counterparts despite similar qualifications. At current improvement rates, Black women will not achieve wage equality until 2144—more than 120 years from now.

What we do

At the heart of the BFA Institute's methodology is a commitment to identifying and dismantling the often subtle but pervasive manifestations of white supremacy culture in professional environments. Through their individual professional coaching and leadership cultivation programs, we guide professionals from all sectors in recognizing and challenging systemic racism and oppressive practices. This work is fundamental to fostering truly inclusive and equitable workplaces where all individuals can thrive!
